Is roll20 good for beginners?
Your first Character Creation can be completed in 15-20 minutes in-game at the start of the game session. We use Basic Fantasy RPG which has a Free Core Rules PDF, not only free but fast to learn (in my opinion it is ideal for beginners who want to play classic-fantasy RPG Dungeons and Dragons style).
What is needed to run roll20?
For the bare bones basic campaign that is a few maps and tokens while using voice only (built in), any computer system that is at least 2.0 dual core cpu with 4 gigs of ram and a solid basic video card (DX9 or better) should handle it. That was my setup for the last few years and I ran roll20 on it with ease.
Why is Roll20 so bad?
The main problem with Roll20 for me is it being very unstable, which made it annoying to use. We abandoned the video chat feature quickly, because it kept freezing or some other thing was constantly not working. It just wasn’t reliable enough to use. Instead we moved to Discord.

Why can’t my players see the map Roll20?
Is the map placed on the map layer or the token layer? If you have it on the GM layer, it will be invisible to the players. If it is transparent to you that means it is on the GM layer. Player tokens must have sight and be assigned to one or more players.
